We had a wonderful week! We are starting to settle into our daily routine and are getting down to business. It is always exciting to see the kids begin to love the things that we do in class. This week we start working on number sense in math workshop. While learning about place value used base ten blocks to model numbers to 30. We used our ELMO to show the class what our models looked like. An ELMO is a camera that we plug into the computer and it shows what we are doing live on the SmartBoard. It is very cool and quit exciting! We also completed an activity called mystery bag, in which will pull items out, counted them, and then showed on our paper what we found in the bag.
During writer's workshop we were still working on our rituals and routines for the year. This week we learned how to share knee-to-knee eye-to-eye. This is a way to share during share time that allows each author (child) to share their piece of writing for the day. This usually becomes a favorite, as we are always proud of our writing!
We are also continuing to work on rituals and routines during reader's workshop. This week we have been learning how to pick "just right" books. We also learned about our leveled library. Each child was able to put what they learned to good use by selecting books that they would like to read from our leveled library. They picked their books based on interest, their independent reading level, and if it is a "just right" book.
