Things will begin to get back to normal for the next few weeks. This week during math we will continue working with money. We will focus on nickels and quarters. Today we learned about the nickel and completed a couple of nickel tasks. The following is an example of a task that we completed today - Nicholas has three nickels in his bank. He finds four pennies. How much money does Nicholas have in all? After completing our tasks we learned how to play penny nickel exchange. During this games, students roll a dice and collect the number of pennies they rolled. On their next turn, if they have enough money that may "exchange five pennies for a nickel." The game is over when all of the nickels are gone. The person with the most nickels wins the game.
This week for Reader's Workshop we will be talking about main idea. We will look at several different books and passages to determine the main idea. We are currently studying the fiction genre. We will begin to move into non-fiction over the next few weeks.
We will begin focusing on non-fiction writing this week. We will begin the non-fiction unit with functional writing. Functional writing covers anything from recipes, directions, or how to books. We will begin how - to this week.
