The past few weeks we have been working on our number sense. We have been practicing counting and learning about tools that we will use to help us learn about numbers.
We did an activity that had us practice counting and recording the information we found out. Each pair looked into a Mystery Bag, counted the items, and recorded them on their paper.
We also did an activity called Collect 20. During this activity each partner had a dice and counters. The partners took turns rolling their dice and adding counters to match the number they rolled. They took turns until together they reached the number 20. During this activity they practiced counting by 1's and counting on.
To end our study of number sense we studied a 100 chart and number line. After our study of number lines we made a large class number line. The students worked together to complete their section of the numbers line. They had to use every number they were given. They did a great job figuring out that their numbers might not be just 0 - 9.
