This week in math we are working on addition. We have learned the addition, sum, addend, and what a + sign is. To learn that when you add, you combine numbers we have learned to play two games. First we played Double Compare. The students played with a partner and used dot cards. Each child turned over two cards and combined them. Whoever had the highest number won the hand.
Today we played Roll and Record. Each child had a recording sheet and two dice. They rolled both dice and combined the two to get a sum. They recorded their sum on the sheet. They continued this process until until one number reached the top of the recording sheet. We then recorded each child's winning number and talked about different ways to show each sum (ex 2+5 and 1+6 both equal 7)
